Making a speech in the symposium in Kayseri, former Chairman of Turkish Historical Sociery Professor Doctor Yusuf Halacoglu said that opinion of scientists are being ignored in Turkey’s policies against Armenia.

Halacoglu said, “If you tell us that 1,5 Million of Armenian people were massacred, then of cource somebody will make researches on it. The things they tell are totally wrong. Such thing certainly did not happen. If there was such thing, we would tell it. If you do not trust the documents you have, you have to rely on the documents that United Nations have. But they are even denying the truth that the documents of UN prove. Turkey proposed establishment of a joint historians committee. If they were sincere, they would support the initiative. But they are running away whenever we call for discussion of these issues. Of cource they will. How can they explain shipment of thousands of arms to Armenian militants by US, Italy and Russia. It is not very easy to face with the history, especially if you have been politicizing it. How would Turkey be firm against these allegations without historical studies? They claimed that there were mass graves. ‘Show us and we will dig it,’ we replied. What was the source of our self-confidence? The historical documents we have...

But if you are opening borders with Armenia despite all these facts... It shows that you are not benefiting from the opinions of yourscientists. Then why do you support education and science?” < Prev   Next >
