Davutoglu, Clinton discusses Turkey-Armenia protocols

E-mail Print PDF
Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoglu made a phone call to his American counterpart Hillary Clinton and discussed the recent problems in the process of normalization of relations between Turkey and Armenia.

Constitutional Court of Armenia issued its justified decision about the ruling over conformity of Turkey-Armenia protocols to Armenian constitutional law. The justified decision of Armenian Constitutional Court was on the focus of criticisms of Turkey because of evaluating the clause in protocols about establishment of a joint committee of historians by Turkey and Armenia as conflicting with Armenian constitutional law.

Afterwards, Davutoglu made a phone call to Armenian Foreign Minister Edward Nalbandian and expressed his disappointment in the justified decision of Armenian Constitutional Court.

Today, Davutoglu called U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton and discussed the recent developments in the process of rapprochement with Armenia. U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton was present in the signing ceremony of Turkish-Armenian protocols in Switzerland.

Davutoglu also stated in a press conference with Foreign Minister of Jordan that Armenia should keep loyal to the letter and spirit of protocols. Stating that Turkey introduced protocols directly after signing them with Armenia, Davutoglu said, “On the other hand, in Armenia there is a process of analysis of protocols by Armenian Constitutional Court about conformity of protocols to the Armenian constitutional law. The influence of the comment of Armenian Constitutional Court might be questioned but letter and the spirit of the protocols should be preserved.”
