Armenia displeased with PACE President's Statements

The Foreign Ministry has added its voice to Armenian criticism of the new Turkish president of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe.

Foreign Ministry spokesman Tigran Balayan told News.am that hardly was the ink dry on Movlud Cavusoglu’s election as president of PACE, than he abused his authority by making one-sided statements.

“It is frustrating that a senior official of the Turkish ruling party is damaging the process of the Karabakh conflict settlement by such statements, which is not appropriate from the leader of such an influential structure, whose main mission should be the elimination of differences among the member-states,” Balayan said.

“As for attempts to link Armenian-Turkish relations and the Karabakh conflict settlement, they have already run their course and been assessed by the world community. Cavusoglu’s statements cause a number of questions and doubts about his further activity as PACE president,” Balayan said.

Movlud Cavusoglu said in an interview yesterday with Azerbaijani news agency APA that the territory of Nagorno-Karabakh has always been shown as Azerbaijani territory in decisions by the Council of Europe.
