Los Angeles based Armenian news portal Asbarez published the photos of the massacre that was held by Soviet military against Azerbaijani people in Azerbaijani capital on January 20, 1990 under the title, “Armenians of Baku massacred in their homes.”

In a report about “Black January” in Baku, Armenian media organ claimed that Armenians of Baku were massacred in 20 January, 1990. Armenian web site did not stop with the distortion on the text but also presented photos of Azerbaijani victims of the 20 January massacre as “Armenians massacred in their homes.”

It is reported that the photograph that was advertised by Asbarez as Armenian victims, belong to Azerbaijani people and it wascaptured by Itar-Tass news agency’s correspondent Andrey Solovyov.

Reacting to the report of Asbarez news portal, Azerbaijani-American Council (AAC) condemned the report and stated that this is not the first time for Armenian web sites to present the photos of Azerbaijani victims as Armenians.

AAC reminded that Azerbaijani children who were massacred in Khojaly village of Azerbaijan by Armenian armed forces were presented in Russian journal “V Novom Svet” by an American Armenian as Armenian children massacred during World War I.

170 people died and another 744 people were injured in the result of the deployment of Soviet divisions in Baku at the order of the Presidium of the USSR Supreme Council signed by Mikhail Gorbachov on January 19-20 of 1990. Among those killed are people of different nationalities including Azerbaijanis, Russians, Ukrainians, Tatars, Jews and others, as well as women, children and elderly people. The fate of a great number of people that went missing that terrible January night is not clear yet.
