Turkey-Armenia: Who will be the loser?

E-mail Print PDF
Those who opposed the “Armenian initiative” from the very start of the process, never expecting to see any results from it, are now saying this in the wake of the recent “protocol crisis”: “It is simply not possible to come to an agreement with Armenia.

There is no point in trying to force this any further. It is Armenia that will once again be damaged by this in the end. There is actually nothing that we have to lose.”   The two protocols aimed at boosting the normalization of relations between Turkey and Armenia were signed with a “win-win” understanding of the situation. In other words, it appeared that both sides believed that this mutual agreement, with every word so carefully chosen, was to bring about reciprocal benefits to all. But now we see that we are only at the start of this initiative process, and it is already badly blocked. And this being the case, some are already busy calculating who stands to “lose more” from a termination of this process, while others are busy saying: “It is the other side who stands to be damaged. We have nothing to lose.”
