Assigned to embassy in Washington, Foreign Ministry Deputy Undersecretary Namik Tan commented on the probability of adoption of a so called Armenian genocide resolution in the U.S. Congress.
Commenting on the probability of adoption of a resolution that officially recognizes so called Armenian genocide in U.S. Congress, Turkey’s Ambassador to Washington Namik Tan said that Turkey does not expect a negative step from United States this year and in the future. Speaking in a meeting that is held by Turkish Democracy Foundation, Namik Tan stressed that so called Armenian genocide resolutions are baseless and needless.
“Turkey made a historical step and signed protocols with Armenia,” said Tan. Stressing that Turkey did not set any precondition for signing protocols with Armenia, Tan said that such a resolution in U.S. Congress would lead unwanted strains in the relations between Turkey and US. Tan said, “We do not expect any negative steps from our ally (U.S.) not only this year but anytime in future. Making such a step, especially when the cooperation between two countries is very comprehensive, would cause serious strain. Such a step would form a blow to the efforts towards establishing peace in Caucasus.”
