“It sometimes seems that Azerbaijanis are negotiating the Karabakh conflict with themselves”.
The preamble of the renewed Madrid principles complies with the statement of the OSCE Foreign Ministers made in Athens, Armenian FM Edward Nalbandian told during a governmental hour in the Armenian parliament.
“If there has been an agreement on declaration of the details of the preamble, it would have occurred long before, but I can say that it complies with the Athens declaration of the foreign ministers of 56 OSCE member-states which fixes the principle of the rights of nations for self-determination”, he noted.
The foreign ministers of 56 OSCE member-states adopted a declaration on the Karabakh issue in Athens on 1-2 December 2009 which fixes the principle of the right of nations for self-determination and stresses the importance of the principle of nonuse of force and threat of force.
Nalbandian also noted that the statement of Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov about the coordination of the preamble of the renewed version of the Madrid principles does not mean that the conflict settlement is close to end.
The Armenian FM announced that “It sometimes seems that Azerbaijanis are negotiating the Karabakh conflict with themselves”.
Russian FM Sergey Lavrov told reporters on January 26 that Armenia and Azerbaijan will prepare their proposals about the document on the resolution of the Karabakh conflict and the preamble of the renewed Madrid principles has been coordinated.
