E-mail Print PDF
One of the most experienced members of U.S. House of Representatives, Democrat representative from Pennsylvania John Murtha passed away at the age of 77.

One of the most efficient names in the Congress on the issues related to defence, Murtha has lost his life at Virginia Hospital in Arlington.

As the highest level Democrat Party official in the sub-committee that monitors defence expences, Murtha’s decisions were affecting the expences of Pentagon and he was one of the most influental members in the Congress.

Murtha is known with his resistance against bringing so called Armenian genocide resolutions to the Congress. Following the adoption ofan Armenian resolution at the External Relations Committee of the House of Representatives, Murta announced that he is against the resolution and called Speaker of House Nancy Pelosi not to bring the resolution on the agenda of General Assembly.

Murtha was among the Democratic Party politicians who sent a letter to President Abdullah Gul and Armenian President Serzh Sarksyan for supporting the initiative for normalization of relations between two countries.
