Armenia presents the monuments of Caucasian Albania as the Gregorian, the Chairman of the State Committee for Work with Religious Organizations of Azerbaijan Hidayat Orujov said at a meeting with Ambassador of Poland to Azerbaijan Krzysztof Krajewski.
The conflict between the two South Caucasus countries began in 1988 when Armenia made territorial claims against Azerbaijan. Armenian armed forces have occupied 20 percent of Azerbaijan since 1992, including the Nagorno-Karabakh region and 7 surrounding districts. Azerbaijan and Armenia signed a ceasefire agreement in 1994. The co-chairs of the OSCE Minsk Group — Russia, France, and the U.S. — are currently holding the peace negotiations.
Armenia has not yet implemented the U.N. Security Council’s four resolutions on the liberation of the Nagorno-Karabakh region and the occupied territories.
Before the eyes of the world public, Armenia conducted ethnic cleansing, destroyed ancient architectural monuments of our history, destroyed the churches on its present territory, said the chairman of the committee.
“Today, there is no Azerbaijani either in Armenia or Azerbaijan’s occupied territories, even in the ancient Azerbaijani territories of Nagorno-Karabakh. But the Armenians live in Baku, and the state ensures their safety. The world community should resolutely condemn the Armenian vandalism. It is time to defend the validity of both words and actions,” said Orujov.
Highly appreciating the tolerant environment in Azerbaijan, the ambassador said that over four years of his activities in Baku, he has witnessed the freedom of religion, the development of national and religious traditions of tolerance, stable religious atmosphere.
