Organization for Fighting Against Baseless Armenian Allegations in Igdir (ASIMDER) called authorities to take action for urging Armenia to shut down Metzamor Nuclear Power Plant in Armenia.

ASIMDER sent letters and documents to the Foreign Ministries of Turkey, Azerbaijan, Georgia and Iran toward closure of Metzamor Nuclear Power Plant in Armenia that is settled at 15 kilometers distance from Turkish border.

Stressing that old power plant consists a security threat for Turkey, Azerbaijan, Georgia and Iran, head of the organization said that they have sent documents that include technical details about the power plant to the foreign ministries of countries that are under threat.

Stressing that the power plant is very old and it was built on a first-degree seismic zone Chairman of the ASIMDER Goksel Gulbey said, “We included technical details and opinions of international organization and societies towards closure of power plant. Built by the same technology with Chernobyl, Metzamor Nuclear Power Plant is found dangerous by EU and several international authorities.”

Calling Armenia to shut down the old nuclear power plant, officials of NGO stressed that the construction of the power plant was damaged during the earthquake in 1988 and cancer cases have been increasing in Igdir since then.
