E-mail Print PDF
Turkish Grand National Assembly Foreign Affairs Committee Chairman Murat Mercan and members of committee met U.S. Ambassador to Ankara James Jeffrey.

Following the hour and half long meeting, Mercan, Vice Chairman of Republican People’s Party Onur Oymen and Jeffrey replied the questions of media representatives. Mercan stated that as politicans from ruling party and main opposition they have expressed concern that resolution at U.S. Congress that recognizes so called Armenian genocide may destroy ongoing normalization talks with Armenia and the relations between Turkey and United States.

Stressing that similar efforts in the U.S. Congress in April every year, affect Turkish people’s view on United States negatively, Mercan said that Jeffrey will deliver Turkey’s concerns to the U.S. House of Representatives and U.S. Government.

U.S. Ambassador James Jeffrey said that United States supports normalization of relations between Turkey and Armenia. When he is asked if so called Armenian genocide resolution will harm the process of normalization between Ankara and Yerevan, Jeffrey said, “As President Obama noted in his speech at Turkish Parliament, we give full support for the normalization of relations between Turkey and Armenia.”
