Expert: US not to recognize "Armenian genocide"

E-mail Print PDF
Director of Caucasus Institute Alexander Iskandaryan said that U.S. does not intend to recognize so called Armenian genocide.

Stressing that he does not think that the possibility of recognition of so called Armenian genocide by the United States is great, Iskandarian said, “I do not think President Obama will pronounce the word ’genocide’. Of course, he’ll say something, but I do not think the probability of recognition of the genocide is strong,” Iskandaryan said at a news conference on Thursday.

According to the expert, the possibility of the US recognition of so called “Armenian genocide” is viewed as a mechanism of pressure on Turkey, and if the United States use this mechanism, the element of pressure will disappear and it will be more difficult to influence Turkey.

Iskandaryan noted that US congressmen are independent and are able to make decisions on the recognition of so called “Armenian genocide” regardless of the intention of the administration.

However, the Armenian political scientist believes that the United States sponsor theTurkish-Armenian process and this country is trying to exert pressure on Turkey for its development.

“Pressure has recently increased,” he added.
