Turkish Foreign Ministry Undersecretary Feridun Sinirlioglu expressed Turkey’s concerns on so called Armenian genocide resolution and justified ruling of Armenian constitutional court during his visit to United States.
Will Turkey be able to convince the West to adopt a fair attitude related to these issues?
Responding to the question, political scientist Razi Nurullayev said, “The announcement that Turkey will not ratify protocols in current circumstances after the release of Armenian constitutional court’s ruling on the conformity of protocols to the Armenian constitutional law, is enough to make conclusions on the future of theTurkey-Armenia process.American officials called Turkey to ratify the protocols ignoring the justified ruling of Armenian court. It seems that United States struggles to prevent Russia’s plan towards wrecking the protocols. But Turkey cannotignore its own interests even if United States is a very important ally. Therefore, Turkey asks US to press Armenia.
Following the visit of Turkish Foreign Ministry representative to United States, Prime Minister Erdogan plans to make a similar visit. This shows that Turkey is not considering to make any compromises in this issue. Turkey considers that United States should take Turkey’s attitude into consideration. United States and the West will have to take Turkey’s opinions into consideration as Turkey strengthened its position in the region. Turkey has huge influence in the Middle East. Would United States like to lose Turkey because of Armenia? That does not make sense.”
