Minister Cancels U.S. Visit over "genocide" resolution row

E-mail Print PDF
So called Armenian genocide resolution that U.S. Congress plans to discuss on March 4 has started to show its influence on the relations between Turkey and United States. State Minister Zafer Caglayan, who was planning to make a visit to United States to discuss the details of the "model partnership" project towards development of economical and commercial relations between two countries, has postponed the visit.
It is learnt that American businessmen who have investments in Turkey set off to lobby in Washington against "genocide" resolution to preserve the good relations between two countries.

The new model of partnership between Turkey and United States toward enhancement of commercial and economical ties was projected during the visit of Prime Minister Tayyip Erdogan to Washington. Within the frames of the agreement achieved between Erdogan and U.S. President Barack Obama, the project was initiated in which Deputy Prime Minister Ali Babacan and State Minister Zafer Caglayan represent Turkey and U.S. Commerce Representative Ron Kirk and U.S. Minister of Commerce Gary Locke represent United States. State Minister Zafer Caglayan was planning to make a visit to United States to discuss the details of the "model partnership" with U.S. officials Kirk and Locke and also with Turkish businessmen in US. But Ministry of Foreign Affairs has decided to postpone the visit to some other date. There are rumours that the visit is canceled due to the agenda of U.S. Congress related to the recognition of so called Armenian genocide.
