"All legal procedures observed on Turkey-Armenia protocols"

E-mail Print PDF
All legislative procedures were observed in the signing of the Armenian-Turkish protocols, Armenian Foreign Minister Edward Nalbandian has said.

He told parliament today that under the law on international treaties certain procedures must be observed when signing treaties.

“The legislation gives the Armenian president the authority to stipulate other procedures for the signing of international treaties and which he used and so did not break the procedural norms,” Nalbandian said.

The protocols were signed in Zurich on 10 October 2009 by the foreign ministers of Armenia and Turkey. The first protocol covers the opening of the Armenian-Turkish border and the normalization of relations, while the second envisages the establishment of a joint historical commission to investigate the events of 1915 in Ottoman Turkey.
