E-mail Print PDF

A parliamentary question in German parliament related to 1915 incidents in Ottoman Empire is blocked by German Prime Minister Angela Merkel’s government.   German government explained its attitude against the parliamentary question as, “It is the problem of the countries that are parties of the debate.

The issue should be left to independent historians.” Responding to the parliamentary question that is introduced by the Left Party, German government did not use the term “genocide” and stressed that the issue should be left to historians. To the parliamentary question, “Does Federal government consider the ‘massacre’ against Armenians in 1915-16 as a genocide?” that is introduced by Left Party, German government said, “The investigation of this issue should be left for scientists. Government considers that these issues should be solved by Turkey and Armenia.”
