Azerbaijan’s ambassador to Russia, singer Polad Bulbuloglu, yesterday spoke of his sorrow at the occupation of Nagorno-Karabakh.
'I have always considered myself someone who fought for Nagorno-Karabakh and I will keep this position till the end,' Bulbuloglu said at a ceremony to receive the Person of the Year award, established by the Chingiz Mustafayev and ANS Group Foundation.
(Cameraman Chingiz Mustafayev was killed during the Karabakh war and was posthumously awarded the title National Hero of Azerbaijan for his filming of the conflict.)
'My only wish is to return to Shusha with my descendants and again visit this sacred centre of Azerbaijani culture,' Bulbuloglu said.
He said the modern concept of war had changed.
'Today victory is gained through political will, wisdom, logic and the rational use of real power. Our people, led by the president, are developing in this way. I am sure that the Azerbaijani people will win in the end because truth is on our side.'
'I have often listened to the romances of Uzeyir [Hajibeyov] and my father Bulbul "Without you". Now I understand better the meaning of eternal sorrow. Inaccessibility is a heavy burden. Therefore, for me “Without you” means without Karabakh, without Shusha, without Kharibulbul. As long as the restive souls of Chingiz, Salatin, the children of Khojaly and the hundreds of Azerbaijani martyrs remain in our hearts, we must not surrender Karabakh,' Bulbuloglu said.
'We should always be ready to return to Karabakh which is ancient Azerbaijani land. This national grief cannot be passed to future generations. "Without you” must end in the victory of our people. I too will spare no effort to put an end to this sorrow.'
