MERCAN: IT IS DANGEROUS TO PUT PROTOCOLS SINGED WITH ARMENIA ON THE AGENDA OF TURKISH PARLIAMENT IN THIS SITUATION
Chairman of the Turkish Parliament’s Commission on Foreign Affairs Murat Mercan called the US House Committee on Foreign Affairs hearing a comedy.
Mercan said Turkey wouldn’t loss and others wouldn’t gain anything what the US Congress’ conclusion to be. “Only a handful of Armenians in America will win. They undermined good will policy for stability in the region”.
Mercan said some Congressmen were under the pressure during the voting at the US House Committee on Foreign Affairs. “My personal opinion is that they performed a comedy. Some congressmen who didn’t join the voting faced with the pressure by Committee Chairman Berman. This draft resolution was worked out unilaterally and distorted the history. We can not accept that. Our nation has a glorious history and it is not suitable for our nation to make any explanation about this document. Americans like comedies and sitcoms”.
Mercan said they concerned about that the draft resolution would create problems for the Turkish-American relations and damage on normalization process between Turkey and Armenia. He said it would be dangerous to put protocols signed with Armenia on agenda of Turkish parliament without satisfactory explanation of the Armenian constitutional court’s decision from the view of international law and elaboration of detailed roadmap on the solution to Nagorno Karabakh conflict.
