Pressure on Turkey by the US equals to pressure on Azerbaijan, said the speaker of the Milli Medjlis (Parliament) of Azerbaijan Ogtay Asadov.
"Official Washington wants Turkey to ratify the Turkish-Armenian protocols and it has distanced from the solution of the Karabakh problem", stressed Asadov on Friday, commenting on the adoption of the resolution on the "Armenian genocide" by the international committee of the House of Representatives of the US Congress on March 4 .
The speaker expressed hope that the resolution still will not be accepted in the Congress, as the US government will show their wisdom.
According to him, during the election campaign, current US President Barack Obama promised the Armenian lobby to recognize the "genocide".
"But after his election he never recognized the ‘genocide’, although he pronounced this word in his speech in the Armenian language. This fact shows once again that the Armenian lobby is very strong and persistent in this issue. But despite this, I am sure that official Washington will not allow the adoption of the resolution, which can also harm the image of this country ", said Asadov.
However, Asadov believes that if Congress passes the resolution on "Armenian Genocide", this step will create a completely different situation.
First Vice-Speaker of the Milli Medjlis Ziyafet Askerov stressed in his speech that the discussions in the Congress again proved that laws do not work in this world and there is only the right of force.
"Therefore, as the president of Azerbaijan has once stated, our country must rely on its own power and strengthen it. The decision taken by the Committee of the US Congress is another proof that the Karabakh issue may lose the opportunity of its peaceful settlement. The matter is that international organizations which execute international law show their weakness. Thus, UN has adopted several resolutions on the Karabakh conflict, but it is not able to implement the decisions taken by the Armenian-Azerbaijani conflict on Nagorno Karabakh. This proves that UN is unable to resolve the conflict and plays the role of toys in the hands of several international centers of power and states ", concluded Askerov.
