Azerbaijani MPs urge parliament to send protest to US Congress

The Milli Medjlis (Azerbaijani parliament) deputies speak for adoption of a statement of protest to the US Congress.

The decision passed by the committee of foreign relations of the US Congress about recognition of the so-called “genocide” is a heavy blow to the Turkish interests, MP Igbal Aghazade told the next plenary session of Milli Medjlis Friday.

“This step of the US Congressmen also affects the attempts to restore peace and stability in our region. This is another proof of the fact that Washington will not show the adequate response to the Khojaly genocide,” he said.

Parliamentarian Yagub Mammadov urged Milli Medjlis to adopt a statement due to the resolution adopted by the US Congress.

“Let Americans first respond for termination of the ethnic population of America, Indians, whom they expelled to reservations,” he noted.

Representative of the oppositional Musavat wing of the Azerbaijani parliament Panah Huseyn also spoke for the adoption of a resolution addressed to the US Congress.

“We should display our solidarity with Turkey and the Turkish people. The committee of the US Congress has recognized the lie, the events that have never occurred. It would be naive to suppose that after these actions Washington will take an unbiased position on Karabakh,” he noted.
