Armenia accuses Turkey of delaying ratification

E-mail Print PDF
The Armenian foreign minister has accused Turkey of breaking the rapprochement accords by dragging out their ratification.

Commenting on Turkish Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoglu’s reported statement that the Armenia-Turkey protocols could be ratified within three days, Armenian Foreign Minister Edward Nalbandian said, 'If such a statement was made, it means Turkey could have ratified the protocols several months ago but did not do so.'

'The protocols were submitted to the Turkish parliament last October. Not three, but 33 times three, days have passed since then. Turkey is, therefore, admitting the artificial protraction of the ratification process.' Nalbandian said that this was a breach of the agreement reached between Yerevan and Ankara with Swiss mediation.

'Turkey constantly voices threats to stop the initiated process. The language of threats follows the language of preconditions. I do not think one can be successful without revising this stance,' Nalbandian said.
