"Signed protocols should be withdrawn"

E-mail Print PDF
“The protocols signed with Armenia must be withdrawn from the Grand National Assembly of Turkey.”

According to leader of the Turkish opposition of People’s Republic Party Deniz Baykal, the decision by the Committee on international relations of the US House of Representatives is based on the claims to Turkey. Opposition considers that the nation must voice its protest on this decision.

According to Baykal, there is nothing unusual between the decision taken by the committee and publication of historical truth. The cause of “urgency” of this issue throughout 100 years is not the responsibility before the history, this is just a political concept. This concept is connected with pressure on Turkey in the issue of claims on recognition of “genocide,” attempts to bind Turkey’s policy with the claims for “genocide,” according to Star TV.

“By signing these protocols with Armenia, the ruling party hoped for softening of the US policy in the issue of recognition of ’genocide’. These hopes did not come true. The signing of these protocols has not affect the thaw in the Armenian-Turkish relations, elimination of disputes between Turkey and the United States about recognition of ’genocide’ and peaceful development of the Armenian-Azerbaijani relations.”
