Armenian citizens in Turkey followed the voting on Armenian genocide allegations in the Foreign Affairs Committee of U.S. House of Representatives on television.
Stating that they assume Turkish people as their brothers, Armenians of Turkey said that the issue should be solved by the historians. Stressing that they borned and grow up in Turkey, Armenian citizens stated that they were never exposed to discrimination. Refuting the claims of genocide, Armenian citizens reacted to U.S. policy related to the issue as United States brings the issue on the agenda over and over again to put pressure on Turkey.
One of the Armenian citizens, Ilyas Avci stressed that he certainly does not agree with the attitude of Armenian diaspora. Avci said, “We did not see anything like genocide. What could be said about something that had never happened? These are projects against Turkey. We are living in Turkey as a family with Turks and others. We are all brothers and we are all Turkish citizens.”
Another member of Armenian community, Durak Yilmaz said, “I believe the allegations of genocide are fabrication. Even if it had happened, it is an incident that took place 100 years ago. Why do they put those things in front of Turkey after one hundred years? Foreign countries use this issue to blackmail Turkey.”
Stressing that they are bored of this issue, another Armenian citizen, Murat Bolat said, “I believe the issue can be solved with the dialogue between the parties of the debate. We do not have any problems with Turkish people. And i have no information about genocide allegations. It is something that historians should deal with. Let historians discuss and tell what had happened.”
