English the Economist magazine commented on the reaction of Turkey on the adoption of resolution that recognizes so called Armenian genocide in the Foreign Affairs Committee of U.S. House of Representatives and wrote that Turkey’s may be calmed if so called Armenian genocide resolution is not brought on the agenda of the General Assembly.
Giving space to the warnings of Turkish diplomats and politicians that Turkish-American relations may suffer because of the resolution, Economist magazine reminded that the committee passed a similar resolution in 2007. The Economist wrote, “Nobody, including U.S. President Obama, cannot ignore the strategical importance of Turkey. Turkey is an important ally for US and has the second biggest army in NATO. United States has an important air-base in Turkey which serves for the needs of American troops in Iraq.”
Stressing that the voting is made while Turkish-Armenian relations is in a sensible period, the article reminded that two countries signed protocols towards establishment of diplomatic relations and opening of borders. Stating that justified decision of Armenian constitutional court irritated Turkey, Economist wrote that decision of U.S. House will irritate Turkey even more and will cause Turkey to be more inclined to her Muslim neighbours instead Europe, US and Armenia. “Hopefully, United States will not bring the resolution on the agenda of General Assembly which will calm Turkey down. But in the end, it is not easy for Turks to weaken ties with United States,” the magazine wrote.
