Armenian diaspora defined Obama’s attitude related to discussion of Armenian genocide allegations in the General Assembly of U.S. House of Representatives as “cowardice.”
A press officer at the Bureau of European and Eurasian Affairs of the State Department, Paul Oglesby reminded the statements of U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton that letting so called Armenian genocide resolution to go further may prevent normalization of relations between Turkey and Armenia and said, “Therefore, we oppose it.”
One of the newspapers of Armenian diaspora in United States, Asbarez criticized the attitude of U.S. President Obama related to discussion of Armenian genocide allegations in the General Assembly of U.S. House of Representatives. Commenting on the statements made by Obama administration that government is against discussion of Armenian allegations in the General Assembly of U.S. House, Asbarez defined the stance of President Obama as “cowardice.”
Sending a letter to Asbarez responding to the question of the Armenian newspaper, Paul Oglesby wrote, “Secretary Clinton has been clear that further Congressional action with regard to House Resolution 252 could impede progress on normalization of relations between Armenia and Turkey, and thus we oppose it. As the Secretary has said, we continue to believe that the best way for Turkey and Armenia to address their shared past is through their ongoing effort to normalize relations.”
