Armenian President Proposes To Handle Protocols Separately

E-mail Print PDF
Armenian President Serzh Sarksyan proposedevaluation of Zurich protocols separately.

As the protocols towars normalization of relations and opening of borders between Turkey and Armenia wait for ratification in the parliaments of both countries, continuation of the Armenian efforts for international recognition of Armenian allegations causes Turkey’s reaction. While Yerevan administration calls Turkey to ratify the protocols, Ankara administration stresses that no step will be made unless significant progress is achieved in the process of resettlement of Nagorno-Karabakh problem. Turkey is not for initiating a cooperation with Armenia which official Baku does not approve.

Separation of two signed protocols is on the agenda for reviving the frozen process. The opinion, “Let’s initiate diplomatic relations and we can negotiate opening of borders and other issues afterwards” gets stronger both in Ankara and Yerevan. Commenting on the process of normalization of relations between Turkey and Armenia, Armenian President Serzh Sarksyan said, “Let’s establish diplomatic relations. We can negotiate everything afterwards.”

Speaking to French Le Figaro newspaper, Sarksyan said, “Many people approach normalization of relations between Turkey and Armenia suspiciously. Not only in Armenia. That opinion exists in many places. My efforts towards Turkish-Armenian normalization caused the protests of Armenian diaspora in the World. Therefore, the process of ratification of protocols is delayed. The number of people that support normalization of bilateral relations is decreasing.”
