Erdogan expected to raise Armenian bill in UK

E-mail Print PDF
Turkey’s prime minister, Recep Tayyip Erdogan, is paying a two-day visit to the United Kingdom.

He is expected to try to prevent the endorsement of a resolution on the Armenian genocide by the House of Commons, when he meets his British counterpart Gordon Brown in London today.

The bill on an Armenian Genocide Remembrance Day was submitted to the House of Commons by Labour MP Andrew Dismore on 6 January, while the House scheduled a second reading of the bill for 30 April. To become law, the bill has to be approved by the House of Lords and given royal assent.
