OSCE mediator Bernard Fassier has said that the Armenian and Azerbaijani media distorted his remarks about the Armenian army.
The French diplomat telephoned Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Elmar Mammadyarov yesterday to clear up the situation.
Bernard Fassier expressed his concern at the reports in Armenian and Azerbaijani newspapers. Armenian media reported Fassier as telling a NATO seminar in Yerevan on Friday that, 'Azerbaijan’s victory in the event of renewed war is impossible, because I know about the bravery of Armenian and Karabakh warriors.'
The diplomat said his statement had been completely distorted. He said that as the co-chair of the OSCE Minsk Group he could never evaluate any army or soldiers and would never make such a mistake as a mediator. He described the distortion of his remarks as unacceptable.
