"Genocide" resolutions is also being discussed in the circles of EU and NATO. NATO officials stress that accusation of a NATO member country of committing genocide by the Parliaments of ally countries damages the alliance severely.
While adoption of these resolutions please the groups that oppose Turkey's EU bid, groups that support Turkey's EU membership underscore that resolutions undermine the process of normalization of relations between Turkey and Armenia. EU and NATO officials say;
"Genocide resolutions are blow to Turkish-Armenian rapprochement. Armenian resolutions are passed from the parliaments of some countries in the recent years. Who gain anything of that? As a result of these developments, establishment of dialogue between Turkish and Armenian people and discussion of the problems by the parties of the conflict is prevented. Eventually, Armenia remained as the country that is damaged the most and Turkey after Armenia. Such initiatives prevent rapprochement of Turkish and Armenian people.
The timing of these bills are very interesting that they are brought on the agenda one after another. Discussion of "genocide" resolutions in the parliaments of some countries while Turkey and Armenia gets prepared to sign protocols cannot be evaluated as coincidence.
Accusation of a NATO member country of committing genocide by the Parliaments of ally countries damages the alliance severely. "Armenian genocide" problem is an issue that should be solved between two countries. Intervention of third countries are not helping to the process.
Groups that oppose Turkey's EU bid are very pleased of these resolutions. They were surprized with Turkish-Armenian normalization process and with democracy initiative in Turkey. Such circles opposed democracy initiative in Turkey and stressed that Turkey should at first recognize "Armenian genocide". These circles make use of "Armenian genocide" and they want Turkey to recognize the "genocide" to be a member of European Union.
Politicizing the "genocide" issue undermines the rapprochement of Turkish and Armenian people and efforts towards solving the problem. Turkey's mediating role between the countries in the region and its active foreign policy disturbed some countries."
