Nalbandian: Erdogan’s statements about deportation of Armenians inadmissible

Armenian Foreign Minister comments Erdogan's statement.

The statements by the Turkish Premier about deportation of all Armenians from Turkey are inadmissible and they do not promote the Armenian-Turkish dialogue, Armenian FM Edward Nalbandian told a briefing with Slovakian FM Miroslav Lajcak Thursday.

Premier Recep Tayyip Erdogan in his interview with the BBC television company has threatened to deport all Armenians residing in Turkey. He said today there are about 170,000 Armenians in Turkey and only 70,000 of them are Turkish residents.

According to the Armenian minister, this issue has caused serious discussions even in Turkey and most people do not understand the reason this statement was made.

“I have today read an article in the Turkish newspaper where they ask who could recommend doing so. But, unfortunately, this is not the first statement of this kind and they can cause completely negative implications”, Nalbandian said.

“It is necessary to advance and execute the agreements that were attained between the two countries and not to threaten or blackmail Armenia or other countries. This is not the way that can be used in a civilized world”, Nalbandian said.
