Making an official visit to Syria, Armenian President Serzh Sarksyan gave an interview to Syria based Al-Vatan newspaper and commented on Armenia-Syria relations, Turkish-Armenian normalization process and resettlement of Nagorno-Karabakh conflict.
Being asked about the possible impact of adoption of so called Armenian genocide resolution in the U.S. Congress, Sarksyan said, "The resolution in the U.S. Congress is a domestic issue and we should not intervene."
Stating that Armenia did not set recognition of so called Armenian genocide for initiation of Turkish-Armenian relations, Sarksyan said, "We do not set any preconditions for establishment of relations with Turkey." Stating that recognition of so called Armenian genocide by third countries should not be connected with Turkish-Armenian process, Armenian leader said, "In my opinion, it is clear that prolongation of normalization process will cause the number of the countries that recognize "genocide" to increase".
Commenting on the impact of closed borders on the Armenian economy, Sarksyan said that closed borders affect Armenia in the political dimension more than on the economy.
