E-mail Print PDF
Baku responded to Armenian President Serzh Sarksyan who stated that he expects new proposals from Azerbaijan towards resolution of Nagorno-Karabakh problem.
Azerbaijani Deputy Foreign Minister Araz Azimov stated that Baku expressed its proposal several times and that these proposals are included in Madrid principals. Speaking to Azerbaijani ANS TV, Azimov called Armenian President Serzh Sarksyan to be careful about the statements he makes over Nagorno-Karabakh problem. Stressing that Azerbaijan's opinion related to renewed Madrid principals is positive, Azimov said, "Now it is Armenia's turn. Because Yerevan has never expressed its opinion related to renewed Madrid principles."
Stating that Armenia's intention is just to gain more time, Azimov said, "But they are not going to yield anything this way. Because they have to respect international law and, on the other hand, benefit Azerbaijan's peacefull attitude. If they do not, Azerbaijan will restore its territorial integrity. Of cource, we will ensure the security of Armenian origin citizens too. That is a very serious issue."
Making an official visit to Syria, Sarksyan had stated that Armenia is not ready to make unilateral compromises in the issue of Nagorno-Karabakh and called Azerbaijan to propose new solutions.
Madrid principles, which was renewed last year by Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE) Minsk Group, call Azerbaijan and Armenia to avoid usage of force and to respect territorial integrity.
