Erdogan: If Obama used 'genocide' word, he was wrong

Turkey’s PM Recep Tayyip Erdogan talked to German “Der Spiegel” and referred to issues related to so called Armenian 'genocide', Cumhuriyet reported.

Erdogan recommended the reporter to study the case before using genocide term as it’s a legal term. Regarding Obama using the genocide word in his message, Erdogan said:

“If he used it, he was wrong. If a president uses that word it doesn’t become truth. Besides, the US isn’t a conflict side. The US is an observer like others sitting in Tribune. It’s our history. The Republic of Turkey was founded in 1915. That was a period when Ottoman Empire was cooperating with Germany.”
Turkish PM said they’re ready to face with their history, if the researchers make serious discoveries, he’s stated that the Armenians should also act willingly.

To the reporter’s question what part of the history Armenians should deal with, Erdogan said Armenians under Ottoman Empire rebelled supported by some foreign forces, which should be studied.

Turkey’s PM referred to his statement of expelling illegal Armenians from Turkey.

“I’ve talked about what we can do. We’ve tolerated illegal Armenians for years. But it can’t last forever. I’ve said that. The world talks about illegal emigrates but when Turkey talked about it, they’ve become frustrated. Why?”

In fact Turkish Government’s head has repeated his threat addressed to Armenians having illegal status in Turkey, saying:

“Our message to Armenian Diaspora and those states supporting them is there are Armenians in Turkey who have illegal status. We’ve never talked about deporting, but if Diaspora keeps tough pressure we’ll have to do it.”
