"The West Is Afraid That Turkey May Unite Turkish World"

E-mail Print PDF
According to the report of Azerbaijani newspaper Yeni Azerbaycan, historian Musa Kasimli said that passage of so called Armenian genocide resolution in the Foreign Affairs Committee of U.S. House of Representatives should not be connected to the strength of Armenian lobby in United States because "genocide" decision is related to the national interests of United States more than Armenian-Americans' efforts. Kasimli said...
"With the end of Cold War, some European countries and United States had the opinion that Turkey was less beneficial for the West. Besides, they were thinking that Turkey may rapidly develop and unite Turkish World. Today, European countries and the West does not only think about this issue but they also worry about Turkey's rapid development and they are creating obstacles to stop this process. One of these obstacles is so called Armenian genocide, which never took place."
Stressing that one of the reasons for adoption of so called Armenian genocide resolutions in the Western parliaments is Turkey's independent foreign policy, Kasimli said that Turkey's attitude towards Iran, Syria, Palestine and Turkey's good relations with Russia are not being welcomed in the West. "Because of that, Western countries want to punish Turkey and somehow make the country dependent to theirselves. Even if World countries recognize genocide, I do not think Turkish government and people would ever accept such a crime, which is never committed by the Turks. Turkey's messages related to this issue is adequately serious. Turkish President and Prime Minister adopted a though attitude over this issue. But Turkish NGO's are very passive in this issue. In my opinion, Turkish NGO's should take action against such developments."
