ATC President: Opposing "Armenian genocide" resolution is in the best interest of US

E-mail Print PDF
President of American Turkish Council (ATC) James Holmes stated that opposing so called Armenian genocide resolution is not a gesture to Turkey but is a requirement of U.S. interests. Stressing that US support to Turkish-Armenian rapprochement process and U.S. government's opposition to recognition of so called Armenian genocide is due to national interests of the country, Holmes said, "United States does not follow these policies as a gesture to Turkey. It is because these are towards American interests."
Giving an interview to Turkish Aksam newspaper, Holmes commented on postponement of annual ATC meeting on Turkish-American relations and said, "That meeting is a must for us. It is our main financial source. We are working on postponement of the meeting to September or October. Everybody waits for April 24 to see whether U.S. President Barack Obama will utter the term "genocide" or not."
Stressing that Obama government disappointed both Turkish and Armenian sides by the policies it followed in the process of so called Armenian genocide resolution, Holmes said, "United States disappointed Armenians by opposing passage of "genocide" resolution although they did it in the last day and they also disappointed Turks because the resolution is passed."
Stating that Turkey has not showed its real reaction to United States yet, Holmes said, "In my opinion, Turkey knows very well about the cards it has against United States. It will decide whether to use them or not, in response to the developments in April 24."
