Sweden's former Consul General to Istanbul and Middle East expert Ingmar Karlsson criticized so called Armenian genocide resolution which was passed in the Swedish Parliament.
Speaking to journalists, Karlsson said, "They were not under though conditions like all other ethnical groups. And the situation was not tough only for Pontus Greeks but for all Greeks. There was a general concern but there was no enforcement or decision about them, such as deportation."
Commenting on the situation of Greeks of Trabzon from ancient times until today, Karlsson said that the resolution that is passed in the Swedish Parliament does not contain any text that claim Turks committed a genocide against Pontus Greeks, as it is claimed by some circles. Following the statements of Kalsson, one of the parliamentarians who voted for the passage of the resolution, Bodil Ceballos stated that Swedish Parliament should correct its mistake if the statements of Karlsson are true.
Another parliamentarian from left wing, who also supported the resolution, Hans Linde said, "We gathered these info from the people who claim that they were victims. The genocide was committed not only against some ethnic groups but against all Christians."
Claiming that Pontus Greeks were also massacred, Pontus Greeks Association President Konstantinos Fraggidis criticized the statements of Karlsson and said, "How can Karlsson be an expert of our history? We just want an apology."
