Armenia To Ratify Protocols?

E-mail Print PDF
Turkish Hurriyet newspaper reported that Armenia is going to bring Turkish-Armenian protocols on the agenda of general assembly until the weekend. Hurriyet wrote refering to the Armenian news agencies that Armenian administration made an unexpected decision and decided to ratify Zurich protocols towards normalization of relations between Turkey and Armenia.
Speaking to the press following the decision, Speaker of Armenian Parliament Hovik Abrahamyan stated that protocols will be discussed in the parliament within next 4 days and will be ratified without any change on the text of the protocols.
Evaluating this unexpected decision of Armenian administration, political observers in Yerevan state that a surprising development may take during the possible tri-partite meeting of Obama-Erdogan-Sarksyan in Washington next week. In these circumstances, Armenia seems to leave the precondition of waiting for Turkey to ratify the protocols first before Armenian parliament ratifies the protocols. It is reported that Turkey will be under much pressure if Sarksyan goes to United States as the President of party which already ratified the protocols towards normalization.
