Davutoglu: We Want a Rich Armenia

E-mail Print PDF
Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoglu stated that Turkish-Armenian relations and Turkish-American relations should not be connected to each other. "We are ready to listen our Armenian friends. We do not want a poor neighbour, we want Armenia to be rich," said he.
Commenting on Turkish-Armenian relations at American think tank organization Concil on Foreign Relations, Davutoglu said that he sees no logic on connecting Turkish-Armenian relations to the relations between Turkey and United States. "Turkey and Armenia are two neighbouring states that live together since hundreds of years. We should be able to discuss our problems by ourselves," said he.
Reminding that Turkey and Greece agreed on holding joint council of ministers between two countries, Davutoglu said, "We couldn't imagine such close relations with Greece 10 years before. Why would not we do the same with Armenia?"
Stating that Turkey wants to normalize its relations with Armenia within the frames of the foreign policy of 'zero problems with neighbours', Davutoglu said, "We do not want a poor neighbour. We want a rich Armenia. We want all our neighbours to be rich and peaceful with us."
"Besides normalizing our relations with Armenia, we want to establish relations with Armenians in Paris and Los Angeles. We are ready to listen our Armenian friends on all issues in our joint history," said he.
