Armenian Presidency awarded President of Bern based Armenian organization Suisse-Armenie, Sarkis Shahinyan, with "Presidency Award 2009" due to his contributions on recognition of Armenian allegations by Switzerland and over his efforts for enabling adoption of the law in Switzerland that penalizes denying Armenian allegations related to 1915 incidents.
Following the lawsuits that were filed by Sarkis Shahinyan against Dogu Perincek and the Presidents of 3 Switzerland based Turkish associations, Swiss court sentenced Turks to imprisonment and imposed a fine because they said "Armenian genocide is an international lie" in Swiss territory.
With this decision, for the first time in the history of World, a court in a democratic country punished people for voicing their opinion related to 1915 incidents in Ottoman Empire.
