The U.S. president, in his traditional speech April 24, did not pronounce the word "genocide,“ Azerbaijani MP said.
“President Barack Obama will not assess the events of 1915, as destruction because of ethnicity,” member of political council of the ruling New Azerbaijan Party, MPAydin Mirzazade told Trend.
The Armenians and the Armenian lobby claim that the predecessor of Turkey — the Ottoman Empire in 1915, committed genocide against Armenians living in Anatolia. The Armenians want recognition of this fact throughout the world. They strengthen the propaganda of genocide in many countries and achieved recognition in the parliaments of some countries.
Mirzazade said that the U.S. have a tradition of statehood. It is responsible to the world as the largest country.
“The U.S. can not lose its influence because of dirty interests of one ethnic group. I think that, a decision will be made like last year but the U.S. will not take such a step,” he said.
MP said if the U.S. makes this action, they may lose their influence as a state.
“In this case, the U.S. government will prove that it became a victim of petty emotions, and will lose such an influential partner like Turkey,” Mirzazade said.
