Halacoglu: The ones who accuse Turks of committing a genocide humiliate themselves

E-mail Print PDF
Professor Yusuf Halacoglu, former head of Turkish Historical Society, said that Turkey struggles to be a member of European Union although European countries show that they do not want Turkey among themselves through acknowledging Armenian genocide allegations.
Giving a lecture in Corum entitled "Lie of genocide and historical truths", Professor Yusuf Halacoglu said that the West accuses Turks of the worst crime against humanity although the documents in their own archives show that Turks never committed a genocide. Halacoglu said, "During the war, Armenians tried to get the control of telegram centers so that they could interrupt the communication between Ottoman troops. On the other hand, Armenian gangs were attacking against Ottomans. So, Ottoman government decided for displacement of Armenians out of the war zone."
Stating that it can be seen in the archives of the countries that acknowledged Armenian allegations that Armenian genocide is a lie, Halacoglu said, "Following the violation of human rights among theirselves, imperialists published a declaration of human rights. 11th article of Declaration of Human Rights states that everyone charged with a penal offence has the right to be presumed innocent until proved guilty according to law in a public trial at which he has had all the guarantees necessary for his defence. And they are accusing us committing a genocide." Stating that Europeans violate their own code, Halacoglu said, "And they also tell that Turks did it. They are abandoning the most important column of democracy. If there was a genocide, I would tell that as a scientist. No administration can claim that Turks committed a genocide. Otherwise, they humiliate themselves."
