Former presidential nominee, US Senator John McCain has reiterated his view that ’genocide’ was committed against Armenians in the Ottoman Empire.
’The USA and Turkey have been friends and allies for years. Turks have fought alongside US troops in many wars and I hope we will do our utmost to maintain relations,’ McCain said in the interview with Voice of America.
He said that so called Armenian ’genocide’ should not become a perpetual issue in Turkish-Armenian relations.
’I am confident that what happened was genocide, but I state it was perpetrated in other times and under another government. This should be considered by all parties.’
