What should we do now?

Armenia’s announcement about freezing the ongoing “protocol” process with Turkey had actually implied that they had been informed of the White House’s preference beforehand.

The move to freeze the process was intended to show that normalization between Turkey and Armenia is very “fragile” despite the US’s intention to see it to completion. Thus, in a sense, Armenians said, “We are no longer in this game.” However, as those who closely monitor the process know very well, it is very unlikely for Armenians, who are part of this process, not to know that the process aimed at ensuring normalization between two countries cannot be waived unilaterally or easily. Indeed, a permanent peace or order cannot be established in the region without settling the accounts with a legacy imposed on the shoulders of two nations. The process may lead to useful benefits for Armenians, and the Armenian government is aware of it.
