Baykal: Both Turks and Armenians Experienced So Much Pain

E-mail Print PDF
General President of Republican People's Party Deniz Baykal stated that 1915 incidents is not an issue that can be labeled with the term "genocide" as both Turkish and Armenian people experienced so much pain.
Commenting on the April 24 statement of U.S. President Barack Obama, Baykal said, "As you remember, Obama used the an Armenian phrase that means "Great Calamity" last year too. Nothing has changed since a year and he used the same phrase once again. Disappointing."
Stating that accusing Turkey over this issue on April 24 of every year is meaningless, Baykal said that 1915 incidents is not an issue that can be labeled with the word "genocide" as both Turkish and Armenian people experienced so much pain. "It was a great tragedy," said he.
"Again in a unilateral approach, Turkish people are introduced as guilty of the tragedy and a phrase that is used in Armenia to adress the word "genocide" is used again. Disappointing," Baykal said.
