EU concerned with suspension of Turkish-Armenian protocols

E-mail Print PDF
Catherine Margaret Ashton, EU High Representative of the Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, expressed her concern over Armenia’s suspending the ratification of the Armenian-Turkish protocols, news.am reported.

On the other hand, she welcomed Armenia’s commitment to the policy of normalization its relations with Turkey. The European Union (EU) once again calls on both nations to continue their dialogue and remain committee to normalization without any preconditions and within reasonable time frame, Ashton said. She also pointed out that Armenian-Turkish reconciliation will contribute to stability and security in the South Caucasus.

On April 22, Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan signed a decree suspending the process of ratification of the Armenian-Turkish protocols, the reason being Turkey’s non-constructive position. Armenia, however, did not withdraw its signature.
