Vice president of the Assembly of Turkish American Associations (ATAA) Ali Cinar stated that the decision of Armenia over suspension of protocols should not be found surprising. Reminding that there is an article in Armenian constitutional law that refers to the issue of recognition of so called Armenian genocide, Cinar said that Armenian diaspora was the leading group that struggled the most to derail the protocols that Turkey and Armenia signed on October 10 in Zurich, Switzerland.
Underscoring that Armenia signed protocols under the pressure of United States and Western countries, Cinar said that the process which began positively now is an impasse. "I believe the protocols are dead now. Armenia is tired of Turkey's pressure on Nagorno-Karabakh issue," said he.
Stating that Armenia tries to introduce Turkey as the "wet blanket" in the international arena, Cinar said, "Turkey is not going to make concessions. Armenia pretends that it is the country that wants reconciliation. They are decieving the World community."
President Obama continues to play a double game
Reacting to April 24 speech of President Barack Obama, Cinar said that the statements "Great Calamity - 1.5 million Armenians were massacred or marched to their death", is not acceptable. Stating that it is disappointing that some NGO's and intellectuals in Turkey support Armenian allegations, Cinar said that Turkish groups and intellectuals that are ignorant on this issue should be educated.
Stating that it was surprising that Obama thanked to the Turks who saved the lives of Armenians in 1915, Cinar said that Obama followed a policy that is toward satisfying both sides.
