'Certain steps have been taken by Armenia to normalize relations with Turkey.'

Armenia sees the potential to export electricity to Turkey, said  President Serzh Sargsyan during the 11th meeting of the Security Council of Atomic Energy under the President of Armenia.

He noted that special attention is paid to the expansion and deepening of Armenia's integration into regional energy markets and its participation in regional projects in the field of gas transport and energy. In terms of Armenia's integration into regional energy markets, Armenia’s interaction in the southern direction - toward Iran, and northern - in the direction of Georgia and Russia is developing successfully.

Serzh Sargsyan said that certain steps have been taken by Armenia to normalize relations with Turkey. According to him, the border opening would be an opportunity to establish economic ties, including in the energy field.

"Despite the fact that as a result of inaction of the Government of Turkey the process has been suspended, we see the potential to export electricity to Turkey and by transit to the Middle East", stressed the President.

According to him, to date, the electricity market in the region is in its infancy and involves creating a ring power grid of the Black Sea and the synchronization of the power grids of Russia, Georgia, Armenia, Iran and elsewhere. At the same time the Armenian side takes into account the fact that in the future an important role in the competition for the right to provide services on a regional electricity market will belong to the country capable of generating electricity with a minimum of harmful emissions into the atmosphere.
