E-mail Print PDF
A group of deputies in the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) issued a declaration in Strasbourg on Tuesday describing parliamentary elections to be held in Nagorno-Karabakh an “unlawful and destructive action.”

The written declaration, signed by 20 deputies from various countries, stated that the “resolution of the conflict between Armenia and Azerbaijan through diplomatic means is one of the important issues which the Council of Europe is endeavoring to settle,” warning that the intended parliamentary elections by the separatist Nagorno-Karabakh regime will deepen mistrust. PACE deputies stated that the election scheduled for May 23, 2010, in Nagorno-Karabakh should be stopped and invited Armenia to apply all possible means of preventing such initiatives. It recalled that PACE Resolution 1416 dated 2005 regards Nagorno-Karabakh as an integral part of Azerbaijan and notes that separatist forces are still in control of the Nagorno-Karabakh region.
