"Armenia did what Turkey wants"

E-mail Print PDF
Azerbaijani Halk Cephesi (Popular front) newspaper wrote that Armenia did what is towards Turkey's interest by halting the process of ratification of protocols in the parliament of Armenia.
Speaker of Armenian Parliament Hovik Abrahamyan stated that protocols that are towards normalization of Turkish-Armenian relations are not removed from the agenda of Armenian parliament. Speaking about the issue to the journalist, Armenian MP Victor Dallakyan said, "Discussion of a resolution in the parliament can be delayed for three parliamentary sessions. It means that protocols can stay on the agenda of the parliament until the fall of 2011."
It should be noted that Armenian President Serzh Sarksyan stated that they did not totally freeze the protocol process but they only suspended the process of ratification of protocols in the Armenian parliament. Sarksyan's statement caused the reaction of Former Foreign Minister Vardan Oskanyan. Stating that freezing the process of normalization of Turkish-Armenian relations is not the right decision, Oskanyan said, "Government should have done nothing or should have withrawn the signature from protocols. Armenia did what Turkey wants. It did not ratify the protocols but did not withdraw the signature from the protocols either. Therefore, Armenia provided Turkey occasion for continuing its pressure on Nagorno-Karabakh. Because of Yerevan administration's half baked foreign policy, Turkish-Armenian relations are in an impasse.
