Armenia is celebrating three victories in May, Defence Minister Seyran Ohanyan said today.
According to the report of Panarmenian.net, he told staff and students at Yerevan State University that Armenia would be celebrating victory in World War II, the capture of the town of Shusha, which was a turning point in the Karabakh war, and the creation of the Nagorno-Karabakh army.
’On 9 May, we celebrate the victory in the Great Patriotic War [WWII], the liberation of Shushi [Shusha] and the formation of the NKR defence army,’ Seyran Ohanyan said.
Drawing parallels between WWII and the Karabakh war, Ohanyan said there would have been no victory in the Karabakh war without the heroic victory in WWII. ’Both the Great Patriotic and Artsakh [Karabakh] wars were imposed on us,’ he said.
The defence minister ended the meeting by handing commemorative medals to WWII veterans.
